You just have to do the math to get steps per inch instead of per mm in motor tuning... and make sure the base units are correct.

Nothing. I taped a sharpy to the quill and ram some of the sample programs in mach to get familiar with the setup. After driving the sharpy into the table a few times, I got the hang of it and drew some roadrunners and circles. Yeeha. The PC is currently on it way back to the refurbished, so I probably wont get back on it for a couple of weeks. In the meantime I'll set up the limit switches and figure out what software I want to use. |

And no pictures? Where's the dislike button I would be going crazy if a PC was holding me up from using a new CNC toy. |

I'll get a pic of my doodles tonight. Something that was odd was that occasionally when I would run the circle program, it would do it vertically instead of horizontally. Normally I would be going crazy too, but I've got so many things going on that it's not even on my mind. |

Finally got my replacement pc! Yay! Still not sure on the cad/cam programs though. I really really want something that does part nesting but isn't a ton of money...suggestions?

Sounds better than my idea of holding down "/" and "2" during boot up...

I have not seen a budget cam system that includes nesting. I would recomend using onshape for your cad, and even doing your nesting using onshape. From there, export your file and bring it back into your cam program. I know bobcad offers a nesting plugin, I am not sure what they charge for that option though. And the 3d pro standard package costs around $1000 by its self. |

You could "nest" your single part programs for free with some finger cam loops across a few work coordinate systems.

Look at the Vectric softwares. Cut2D and Cut3D may be of interest to you. I have used Cut2D for years now and am very happy with it. As I've never tried anything else, I don't know what I am missing tough. I have found that if I do nesting manually it often results in a more effective use of material compared to have the software do nesting for me. EDIT: Just noticed Vectric softwares already are mentioned. Last edited by Tomy; 05-29-2015 at 12:21 AM. |
