My boss has talked about getting a laser for sheet metal work for years. I've always told him he was crazy. We paid a visit to our local sheet metal shop awhile ago, he saw the size of the equipment and no longer talks about it

I have a lot of 1/8" that will be going into my current project, and I'm just going to machine it.

I did some poking around on ebay last night out of curiosity. Even a medium powered engraver is out of my budget.

Here's a little project I did this weekend. Anyone care to guess what it is?

A lot, I have a 60 watt and it won't engrave steel. The units that cut steel are huge....and powerful.

My unit is fun though, I got it for about 2k on ebay...figuring out the software sucked, but once it was working, making stuff on it was fun. I should of took more pics and such...

Other than the software issue (installing it was a bitch to get the drivers to work), mine has been flawless....I didn't laser engrave pork though I even kept the 4th axis from my old mill and got that working no problem, never tried the 4th that came with it.

I will agree though, the tech support and such sucks ass, I asked the simplest question and they literally could not figure it out, even after I provided pictures...

Very close. Passive amplifier for a cell phone. It works about as well as you can imagine it would.

You could've just cut a slot in a red solo cup, or maybe a beer can, or whatever drink container you have laying around, but you do you, right?

Turned finish looks pretty nice though good work.

I tried the plastic cup thing, didn't like it. It was just a fun Sunday project that actually turned out like it was supposed to, so, mission accomplished.

Actually, we were trying different things at work a few weeks ago to get our phones to project music a bit further than they normally would while laying on a workbench. I used mine today and could still hear it fairly well 40' away.

It looks a lot better than the 3D printed one I attempted to print a few years back. This was a few weeks after I got my printer and didn't have the settings dialed in yet, so it never got more than a few layers tall. It was supposed to be the nautilus shell style horn, which would have been impossible to machine, and would have been cool, but I gave up on it really quickly.
