Had a contractor look at the 2bdr addition's sagging interior wall, and its because the cinder blocks underneath are just on dirt. Gutter came loose, water got under the house, blocks sank. We confirmed that removing the wall and floor is the best route. Pour some footers at the edges and suspend the header on studs, then hang the floor off the header. Make it a master bedroom. Just in case I gotta rent or sell.

That's a cute place - nice little fixer up.

Getting into the same thing with my porch and the corner of the house. Middle support is wasted and the corner was just quickcrete poured into a hole. Just finished up all my drainage pipes so onto fixing that next.

Really cool that you took the time to film the Annex to show everyone! Still trying to envision the "Pour some footers at the edges and suspend the header on studs, then hang the floor off the header" idea.

Just curious to see it come together. The lot that the property is located on is great!

Another look at the house from a few weeks ago. We have ripped out a little more and have materials for the two temporary walls needed to support the roof while new header is installed.






Also picked up a fancy worm drive saw so we can rip up the floors for inspection. Then bug bombed the house, fleas were taking over from the crawl space. Might have something living under there!







Around the shop things are going slow for me, physically. A few weeks back I sprained my ankle and tore the tibiofibular ligament. For a while I couldn't stand for any period of time, which is kinda important for running the lathe. Not too big of a deal for me and the machine, but inventory has been getting slim on some items. It has me considering parring down offerings back down to electronics. Spoke machine got too finicky a few months back, so we don't do custom spokes any longer. I could get drivetrain parts made elsewhere without too much guff, but there is a gain to keeping focus tighter. Tough choice that I'll have to think about.

Been hard to make updates of the actual shop lately. I've been working on our handwound motor equipment a lot, and winding quite a bit while we try to balance the work staff and train new folks. Broke one of the winder heads, so I had to re manufacture another and design a new one for when the lathe is tooled for making them again. Vacuum chamber is starting to get leaky, which is more of an annoyance than anything. But I want to redo all the vac lines to get back to full vac. The oven that I bought from another company finally bit the dust, so another oven was purchased and gutted to install the automation electrics. The dynamic balancer is getting fussy, which just requires saving a lot of pennies to replace. And on top of this, I need to redo the vent hoods. They work fine, but we don't have enough zones and gates for my liking. The soldering station fumes don't get fully vented if we are manufacturing armatures at the same time. There is a mobile "fume fighter" that scrubs the smoke too, so it's just first world problems.


New episodes up for the Hobby House. Progress to date is that we have placed a header in the addition to convert it into one large room, and primed all the wood panels. Today I am going over there to finish jacking the header into place. In the 4th episode you can see how bowed the ceiling is compared to the header.

The roof hasn't fallen in yet

I'm probably going to go the lazy route and not fully fix the floor sag. Game of marbles be damned! The corner closet was built with the sag, so we would have to rip it out to raise the floor fully. It almost looks like the floor was installed with the bow in it...

Well, you know what fits your needs/budget the best. I'd just offer the idea of now is the best time to fix anything that bugs you. A closet would be a minimal expense to tear out in order to make the floor *close* to level.

We will see how it reacts to pressure before calling it. The bow doesn't really bother me, but maybe a 75% fix is easy.

Not much update. Got a roofer to seal the roof. More painting. I'm getting ancy and want floors in so we can use the space.

Yeah, made some vids and I didn't like them so we are reshooting for the 4th time with better mic setup. I've been on vacation this past week, heading back tomorrow and should have a fully painted house that is ready for final sheet rock work, kitchen and bathroom revamp, and finally new flooring.

I'm moving slow after vacation, house is lagging on finish work I should probably just hire out. More catching up at the shop than hobby house , running the lathe today and hating conversational programming for breaking these edges and countersinking.
