I love my FX888, absolutely killer for just about everything except assembling battery packs. For heavy work I have an 80w iron and hammer head I got from cheapbatterypacks.

Its a really big unit, so you better have counter space for it. Unless you plan on reworking surface mount devices I wouldn't consider that a feature worth having. I even send out heavy SMD rework to shops with better equipment.

My 888 burns about 8 hours a week, the nice thing is that it heats up in a few seconds. I don't have to turn it on, go back to something else, and come back later for a hot iron. For occasional use there is a knockoff version on hobby king that seems to be decent. I got the real deal since it gets used relatively heavily.

there just under 30 bucks to your door. its a hakko 936 knock off. gets hot fast, and hakko tips fit. catching em in stock is the hardest thing about em.
sign up at hobbyking and you can set a email notification for stock updates.

heres the thread about it. no complaints about em. if you can wait for restock, they really are good stations

I love my Hakko. It's an older 937 that I got off of ebay for ~$60 5 years ago. It is my main iron at the hobby shop and it gets a good 20 hours of use every week. Partner has an FX888 and it works just as well, when a newbie doesn't crank it to 900 to solder a deans and then leave it to cook the tip.

I use a power probe brand pen style and it is butane powered and lasts on one butane charge quite a long time and it gets hot and ready to solder really fast in the kit it comes with several different tips for just about anything you can imagine even a heat shrink tubing tip and since its butane powered you can use it anywhere and dont have to have a plug in. oh and i got it for about $60 and its an awesome soldering gun for the money!!!!

Did you have to change the plug in when you get these? It has a Japanese 110v plug instead of a American 110v plug

Do you have a link to this? I checked their site but don't see anything listed for tools. I have been looking for a hammer head for quite awhile but much larger than the 80W range.
