Default McMaster Carr

I was checking out McMaster Carr for some 3/16 & 1/4 steel tubing & rod for building a chassis & there is like 15 different kinds of steel so what are u guys using to do this?

Would it not be easier to just get some brake line from the auto parts store?

the only brake line ive found so far is rolled up, i need straight but i will do some more searching around town

Most parts stores have straight pieces in various lengths.

Put that in the search and it will pull it up. $21 for 8' of tube with .035" wall thickness.

napa auto parts has uncoated straight brakeline up to 60" for bout 9 bucks........bob

Back to your original question, you would want a low carbon steel so that you can bend, cut, weld or braze it with ease.

I can get some of the green coated junk but it is really expensive because it is already flaired with connectors on it. I forget exactly how much I got it for but it was like a 4' piece and it was 10 bucks or something. For that price I would rather buy the stuff from McMaster.

I actually ran into some stainless steel 316 I believe on Amazon for $2.50 for 6' lengths, I bought all the ones they had haha. I think they were trying to get rid of it.
