| Taig CNC mill
Just thought I would mention that I bought a Taig CNC mill from this site. http://www.deepgroove1.com/index.htm He has good prices on it and it has worked out great. I found him on ebay. Just found out that he now has this web site with some video on the machine. I'm surprised how good the taig CNC cuts. I mostly cut Delrin but it can cut aluminum too. The accuracy is repeatable to a thousandth of a inch. I have machined pockets in Delrin for a press fit for bearings and it just keeps cutting them right on over and over. Nice little tool for the money I think. Bret |

Not bad at all. I like the taig models (lathe/mill). I wish I had that kind of money for tools, though.

I wouldn't buy the taig lathe. It is just ok. The 7X12 lathe from Homier is a lot more lathe for the money. Out of stock right now but for $300 its the best in its class and price. http://www.homier.com/detail.asp?Ses...cat=&sku=03911 The Taig mill is much better than the sherline mills for the money. |

I really like my Taig CNC mill. Better than my Sherline... $1700 for steppers, machine and control iis a good price. I replaced the motor/headstock on mine with a Sherline unit. I always wondered if my Taig motor was weaker than most? Mine would stall out just tightening the belt a little (no load) Mine will cut steel pretty well. Wouldn't want to do it all day every day but it will do it. I got a bridgeport earlier this year, It's 10 years old but still holds .0004" I'd imagine. The taig, when the lead screws wear a little probably holds .004" Still amazingly accurate for the price. With care and a good user the .004" can be lessened. The sherline head is nicer. I wish they could take a larger end mill in the collets. My taig head doesn't stall out. I have the larger motor they sell with the taig. It has more than enough power. The belt is small but so far it hasn't slipped. I would think such a small belt would slip before my motor would stall. Wonder if you have the 1/10th Hp motor?

I use the 3/8" EM holder from sherline. Bigger than 3/8" I use a face mill or fly cutter. 1/2" EM in a sherline would be kinda silly... I'm 90% sure my Taig motor is the new one. Mine must be very weak because most reply like you that there's is fine. |
