I have the Harbor Freight one and use the hell out of it. It has held up well.

It does have a bunch of runout, which I am told if you took the time you could shim out of it. I have never bothered, I ain't building crap for NASA.

try the speedway lathe. Same thing as the HF, but $200 cheaper.

Me? No, I wish I did, but I know a decent amount about lathes-and mills- for someone who owns neither. These lathes are made by the same company (Sieg) in China that makes the Harbor Freight ones, just a different color, and price. Other than that, they are essentially the same. I have heard that they are not as precise as, say a Taig, but they are can hold a slightly larger workpiece. For what you are likely to use it for, (hobby RC, light metal-working, some woodworking, etc.), it will be fine. Jason -the head honcho- gets along fine with one of the Sieg-built models, and he produces some fine-looking work.

How does it work? What exactly do you mean by that, like its functions, capabilities, features, basic operation? Ill be glad to tell you more about it, but what type(s) of questions do you have about it?

john alardin 09-20-2006 09:15 PM

Coreyk, are you still interested in lathe info.? I'm still more than willing to tell you about the lathe.
