| CF sheet layout
What are some proven ways to layout a cutting pattern on carbon fiber sheet? Because it's black, a lot of markers won't work. I was thinking of securing a paper template with doublestick tape and then misting it with white spray paint. Although I'll be cutting away most of the white, is there a way to remove overspray etc still leaving a good CF finish? |

I've used full sheet labels printed with the pattern then stuck to the material I'm cutting. They come off easy enough.

I like the printed label idea since my design is on the computer. I'll give it a try. A friend has a mini mill. Anyone have any threads bookmarked that talk about using a mill for CF side plates? I saw a good step by step with photos a while back, but don't remember where it was. |

at staples they have adhesive printer sheets, that are i think water proof as well, just throw em in your printer, print image, cut em out......works very good, and they leave no residue behind!!

Yeah, I went with the Avery half-sheet printing labels. Worked pretty much perfect except getting them off is a time-consuming chore and it leaves an adhesive scum in some places which doesn't come off with alcohol. I'll have to try one of the goof-off type products, but I want to test it first on a scrap to be sure it doesn't dull the finish.

Here's the actual sticker/label I've been using. I should have included that before I see its repositionable and removable: Avery® 6465 Removable Inkjet/Laser Labels, 8-1/2" x 11", 25/Pack | Staples® | |

I see the advantages, but I'm okay with where I am. Your pack wasn't on the shelves at Staples and mine was only $5 with rebate. Removal problems took me by surprise, but now that I know there's a problem I'll work it out. No biggie. But for anyone else reading -- do it his way.

I use a pin in a pin vice, and scratch my patterns. The scratch really shows up against the black carbon.
