haha

nah, truth is, I might still enter-- but available time will dictate that, not the 'manual only' rule. I do however agree with C.H.U.D - split the winners up, or maybe allow full CNC on SOME of the contests?

At this point, do your best to honor that rule, but the most important thing is that you participate. If it turns out that all the cnc guys are blowing the manual guys out of the water, then we may change the format.

Just thinking out loud here so take it with as many grains of salt as you please...

IMHO, when you break down RCC to a core level it is people with a common interest sharing information for the betterment of the community as a whole. With that being said, I think it would be neat if you were allowed to use any tools you have at your disposal during these challenges. But you have to document your "process"; napkin sketches, laser scans, CAD files, CAM files, raw stock roughing, setups, fixtures and finishing... Like CHUD talked about, everyone will get to see what really goes into taking an idea and making a finished machined part. I can guarantee that someone will learn something that makes their next part easier/quicker to make. I have no formal training in machining or 3D CAD but was drawn to them both for the problem solving challenges they present.

I would love to see that as well, but with a dozen plus people participating in each weeky/biweekly contest that could get real overwhelming real quick and potentially overrun this section.

On the other hand, we could have the winner do a rundown of their machinery, planning, and process in the voting thread once its over.

LESS talk more making parts and pictures!

One idea, instead of one long drawn out and packed thread, why isn't every challenge in its own thread. Would make it easier to see progress shots, or chit chat related to the actual challenge, not just 50 posts about why or why not CNC is cheating.

No pictures this time around until its time to vote so that the entries will be anonymous. I thought that might be fun.

Every challenge will get its own thread once it is time to vote. People can chit chat about it there, and the winner can do a run down of their project with more pictures if they have them.

I'll be in the better late than never group. I've drawn the CAD model, even squared my material to size but am a minimum of 2 weeks out on actually making anything.

Century design works strikes again

I'm not much better though. Work was pretty busy this week and I haven't felt like making anything cool afterwards.
