Just ordered a Smith Micro Oxygen Acetylene welder need help

I have an oxygen acetylene welder like this

http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8d4b4098.jpg

and last night I ordered this

http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/...ps60cad9ae.jpg

Will the micro torch work with the regulators I already have? Or do I need to get micro tanks and regulators?

Thanks!
-David

If you have the proper fittings/clamps for the hoses and the regulators are stable at low flow rates, yes.

Lower the volume per minute/hour on the regulator (trial/error) to get the flame you want.

Thanks! More specifically will the hoses of the micro system thread onto my regulators?

A lot of this stuff is standardized, with a little bit of luck they will fit.

If not, don't worry, there are a kazillion different fittings out there to connect hoses to regulators. "thumbsup"

Forgot to ask: Was there a flashback arrestor included/built in?

If not, add one to your acetylene regulator.

And keep your (ace) bottles vertical and out of harms way. "thumbsup"

OK I'm ordering a flashback arrestor now. I took a welding class at my local jc 10 years ago and forgot about those. "thumbsup" My full size welding rig doesn't have one currently, and the micro set doesn't list what's included

It's a secret:ror: But I'll give you a hint: it will be in my 1/10 1tonscout build

IMO I would use flashback arrestors on both regulators.... I always do.... some will even say put them at the torch too

I've never used a flashback resistor on any of my welding or cutting torches! Don't remember my teacher ever saying anything about them either 25 years ago. What are they for?

Rockridge 07-19-2013 10:06 AM

They stop the flame from travelling back up the hoses to the bottles. I know that it's rare and ill admit i used to be skeptical but I have witnessed it first hand and now you won't catch me with out them. It's a cheep piece of mind IMO

I agree. With the Smith you can't use the arrestors at the torch side - you have to use them on the regulator side. I would much rather have that added protection.
