Default brazing question

I know that the harris saftey silver is the way to go but are there any other choices to go with. More budget friendly?

Not really. You need the high silver content for the best joints. Silver is expensive.

Yeah that's probably not the same stuff. That's likely a high tin version. People have used it but it won't yield a joint anything like the Harris.

I bought a roll of Weldcoate Metals 56% 3 troy ounces for $101.00 online. It's strong and looks great

It depends on fitment of the joints, how many joints, and how good you are.

I have tried a few other types and brands but the Harris 45% is what I use and like the best.

I think the 45 flows better.? Especially if you sand the edges to be joined just like in welding. just my opinion tho...i guess im comfortable with the 45. lil cheaper also

Are they the brass rods? Ive seen them in the store. Do you need to use flux or is there enough on the rod?

I fully disagree with you. I use 1/16th inch diameter silicon bronze and anti-borax flux crystals, I've never had a joint fail on anything that I've built.

The above works great, I find it easy to work with and inexpensive. The bronze seams to have a larger heat range window between flowing and solid form. It fills gaps easier so less prep on the joints if you choose.

Much more freindly for a person just learning to braze. I also like the flux in a can VS the precoated rod. You will always have flux on the tip that way. If you are not paying attention with the precoated rods you can burn the flux off of the tip and then the bronze will not flow....

Safety silv is great, just a bit more finicky in prep.....joints look better imo if done properly but an expensive learning curve if you are not proficient in brazing technics.
