Default Soldering question

Has anyone ever had a issue with solder not heating onto the wire you are trying to solder? I'm using a flux rosin wire, it just heats up and falls off it, I've never had this issue before, could the wire I'm trying to solder have something to do with it?

if the wire is old it might be corroded.

Make sure both surfaces are good and clean. If there is any crud, oils or corrosion on there it can cause it not to stick.

Ditto on clean. If it has any oil on it you won't get the solder to stick. Try cleaning the wire with some motor cleaner sprayed on a paper towel. Spray the paper towel, then pinch the wire in it and clean it. Make sure the motor cleaner has evaporated and dried before trying to solder again.

is the wire thicker than what you soldered before? sounds like in sufficient heat to me. if this is the case you have 2 options; wait longer or get a hotter iron.

Even with flux core wire I still use regular flux on all my soldering jobs. It's like 5 extra seconds, but never any issues with getting a joint to turn out good.

Yup, flux is cheap. Works too.
