I found 1/4" polished stainless channel at dkhardware.com. The minimum of 10x20' comes from their supplier. They took my order for 20', but then the dist. Would not break a box of them. Finally after a couple of days they pulled enough strings to get it for me, but said it will never happen again.

You could call them and ask.... Or start a co-op and buy a box of it. Also found it at a site in NY, I think they had a $100 min. Plus cutting charges to get down to ups size.

Did you look at McMaster-Carr?

Also, I know a lot of people use box/square material and cut in half to make C-channel.

yeah I looked there. didn't seem to find any. most C/U channel I see the inside edges are not straight, they are angled in. ie for strength at the 90* joint.
