Currently:

Clearance drill
Tap dril

ID chamfer
Counterbore
Install clamp
OD
OD chamfer

Switched the ID opps to come before the counterbore. Caused one more tool change but it was worth it.

But all 24 bead holes in the wheel are tapped full depth so you have two backup patterns if it's ever needed.

I can't wait to finish mounting em up!

I agree with Joel(skaldiddog) These should be called the SMW Screw U's.

Not too bad though mounting wise, eight bolts per ring and is one of the easiest wheels to mount tires to, that's with C.I. 5.25 wide inners.

Thanks again Rob, you made my scale wheel dreams come true!

BTW, thanks for sending them fully assembled!

So after tapping 1472 holes I had some time to think. How about a direct drive stepper, floating head, cnc tapping machine. From initial calculations capable of tapping a 3mm thread 7mm deep and withdrawing from aluminum in 1 second.

Started getting measurements for the head casting and spindle. Need to order power supplies, a coupling and possibly material for a mount. Will connect to mach3 with an ethernet smooth stepper for starters. A stand alone controller would be ideal though.
