Not so much a shelf queen here, but I did get the opportunity to test out a fiberglass version of Rob's skid on my C1 Bronco.
Install was easy, just leave the skid loose to install the lower links. I had to use my small hex wrench since the holes were too small to fit my LURC tools.

The next thing I had to do was change to bent upper links. I suspect this is the case with any flat skid if you are using 1/4" links.

Another option would be upper link risers, but running Maxx shafts makes that tough, at least in my case.
Buttoned up (pic is before bent links) it all fits and the angled link pockets are a nice benefit.

The flat skid gives a nice little tummy tuck too.

Sometimes that little extra clearance make the difference though.

I didn't feel the change in geometry to be detrimental, my rig still made some tough climbs and handled well. The material seems to slide well too. I did get one gouge in it, but it isn't any deeper than the corresponding gouge on the steel chassis. Ill get a better pic of that later...looked fine on the phone.

Look forward to more testing and I plan to leave it in for the rest of comp season as well.
Thanks for the opportunity to do some testing.

Here's a few pics of the skid in my Homebrew carbon chassis, fit is perfect, craftsmanship is great as always with the products from the SMW shop.

How long does the printing of a skid take?

I love mine, need to get pics posted of it now installed.

Been busy.

Two weekends ago I cut some carbon fiber for the first time. Robbob helped with some feeds, speeds and safety advise and Casey supplied the CAD files.

Cutter was from Precise Bits and the carbon from McMaster.

My 6"x12" flat sheet pallet. I have a piece of some 3/16" plastic taped down to act as a sacrificial spoil board. (After cutting the parts I fly cut .015" off the top reveling a nice smooth surface next time)

Carbon taped on top of that...

Some test cuts...

First part...

Edge quality straight off the machine. Not bad for a carbon rookie...

Waste not.

More closer...

I have another mill modification project in the works next. Trying to get tool changes a little more efficient so that I can make some more SCX skids!

Looks good those bits do a great job, just don't feed to slow and your good. Harvey Tool sells "composite end mills" that would work good for finishing the edges.

Harvey Tool - Carbide Composite Cutting End Mills - Composite Finisher

How long you think you get out of those bits?

Good question, I change them out when I notice my edges getting rougher but a fair bit of cutting as far as CF is concerned... but it is hard to give a real straight answer. If I had a diamond wheel grinder I would grind down the "dull" part and re-use the cutter

Wanted to see the difference between a $3 Chinese cutter (left) and a $10 USA cutter (right). The new cutter is an SGS brand purchased through Mcmaster. Also went with a larger diameter to allow for running at a lower RPM and reduce tool flex. An initial hand test says the SGS is much sharper. A true test is going to have to wait a while though.
