That was the best way I figured out to hold braces to the main tubes when I was learning how to braze. This is why I like this is why I like this place so much, free flow of ideas between builders.

This is how I've always set mine but I always add 10-15%.
Sometimes full pedal doesn't cut it and you need that little extra.
Model 95?
We'll assume it's a 95 amp max.
The length of your tungston grind should be around 2-3 times the diameter of the tungston.
I like a small flat on the tip of mine for heavier welds and sharp point for thin fine welding.
I could not stress it enough.... the most important thing is to situate yourself to be in a comfortable position with optimal vision.
You want to see perfectly and weld without shakes or contortion.

Damn, didn't realize this thread was old news until I posted..........nevermind your're doing fine. lol

well I finally took the plunge and attempted some m3 nuts. made it a little harder using the thing ones, but I turned down the amps and kept a good sharp tungsten and it actually went pretty well.
I used a small piece of aluminum sheet metal, to span the corner I was working on (outside of tube) and layed the nut in that corner and welded from the inside of the cage. that wasywhen the final panels were made the nuts would be tight against the body panels.

It went well. didn't even get into the threads on most of the nuts.

Did someone say TIG?

If you need, I can make you some vids or answer any questions if you're having trouble in any areas

Instead of nuts, it may be easier to make 14 or 12ga gusset plates that are centerpunched for a hole. After welding on (more material to soak up the heat), then drill and tap

Well it's been a while since I have been on the forum but it looks like you have made some good progress welding, nice job. I am finally getting this welder tomorrow and look forward to building some stuff.

does anyone know if this thing can weld stainless? and if so do i have to change tungsten material or the gas or anything to do so?

It will do it, need to use the proper amount of argon and backpurge your tubing if that's what you're welding. Also use the correct filler rod for the SS you are welding.

whats back purging?
its T304, what kind of filler should i get? (also i forgot to mention, i will be welding mild steel to the 304SS, not 304 to 304)
what happens if i use my normal filler?

For that weld application you would use 309 rod, it's designed for welding mild steel to SS. Back purging is eliminating all oxygen from anything that will see weld temps. If you are welding on and exhaust like your pics you would fill the inside with another argon supply that flows constantly during welding. Stainless exposed to oxygen during welding will oxidize instantly. Over time it will crack. If it's something you care about and want to look good and last you would do this. If it's just a ghetto project don't bother with the 309 rod or the back purge and just weld it together.. I will tell you that only top notch quality fabricators bother with back purge for the most part if it's an exhaust system for a vehicle. Aerospace, food service and medical type fabrication will only do things the correct way for the most part. Titanium, inconel, stainless are the most finicky materials when it comes to weld processes. Mild steel and aluminum will benefit big time from the same practices but are not a necessity.

Been welding ti for a couple years with my 95s. Does just fine so I'd imagine SS would be cake. Just back purge like others said and show us more pictures

If you do not back purge, you will see brown coloured spikes develop on the opposite side of welding. As suggested earlier, back purging gives a reliable product in the long term.
You can also use copper solid as a support medium on the opposite side of argon weld, so that you get a clean weld without spikes. You can try using a copper plate under an SS sheet you are welding and see the results yourself.
