| Comm Lathes
Ok, so I have been running brushless systems in my race rigs for years. However since I have been getting back into the crawlers heavy here lately, I have come to the conclusion that I will be keeping the brushed motors in my rigs. One thing that I remember from the days before brushless was that proper maintenance was key to motor life and performance. I remember when people were cutting comms and breaking in brushes between rounds at the bigger races I went to. I know that I won't need to be that extreme with the crawler motors but want the most performance that I can get out of them. I am looking to add a comm lathe to my arsenal of tools. I have been looking hard at the Fantom lathe as it seems to be the most complete and still have parts available. Who else out there has a comm lathe that can give me some input? |

I bought my lathe from Integy. I immediately cut about 8 comms beautifully. I think I paid less than $50 for it just last yr. I rigged up a little 2 cell battery pack for it, made from some super old 1800 mah race packs from the 90's LOL. I used the 2 cell to keep the rpm where I wanted it. Worked like a champ. |

might try looking on craigslist or search ebay. I just got an older Trinity lathe off craigslist and traded some airplane stuff for it. It still works great and trinity was pretty much one of the best when it came to brushed motors

or you can also search for Twister they were one of the first, if not the first to offer lathes for r/c motors. and a diamond bit will make a world of difference when cutting a comm

Integy Xipp. Cheap, works well and will cut small sized motors too.

I have a Cobra and it works great, it's a little pricey but is made very well and is accurate. I run mine off a modded cpu power supply at 3v. As far as I'm concerned, it's a great combo. You might find a good deal on RCC classifieds, Ebay or Craigslist. Good luck. |
