I'm trying to build a tube scaler I was wondering what everyone uses to C notch their tubing. I am planning on using 3/16 brake line and brazing. And what do you use to clean up the slag from brazing?

i was gonna try one out of 1/4", i bought some 1/4 bits for my dremel thinking i could easily notch em, but nope. i think a how to i read though notching with the 3/16 wasnt as important cause when you braze it fills it in, that you could just kinda v-notch it. with scale tubers on the rise it would be nice if they came out with some scale size tubing tools....

i use a 3/32 drill bit and drill out the center or what size bit you need, depending on what size tubing,if the fishmouth is too big just smash it with a hammer or grind away what you dont need.works pretty good. i recently was reminded about this technique from o5tacoma. commonly used for making tube chassis' for drag racing.if you dont have a tube notcher.

If you see here there is many ways to do it. Also if you use 3/16 solid rod and MIG weld there is no need to notch anything. Since both metals are melted at the joint.

It's best to make a decent fishmount so you get a good fit for brazing. I've actually found the fastest way to fishmouth is with an abrasive 7" steel blade I have in a table saw. After that I hit it a bit with a rat tail round file. If you don't cook the flux too much it comes off pretty easy with some Scotchbrite, or you may have to sand a bit if it's gotten too hot. If you wait about 30-60 secs for the joint to cool a little and then douse it in water, a fair amount of time a lot of it will wash off. Jay
