Post removeing a Stripped screw

Hi there, I stripped out one the set-screw that locks the hex hub in place. Any tips on how to remove it? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

I use a dremel and a thin cut-off disk. Slot the stripped screw and use a flat screw driver to remove.

try a 1/16" hex and see if it will gain yourself any grip. It has worked well for me in the past.

Drill it out with a drill bit that is smaller than the threaded hole.

I normally take my dremel and cut a slit into it and take a standard screwdriver to remove it or if it's really tight then I cut another slit and use a Phillips screwdriver but that is rarely needed. Say if it's a grub screw, take a drill and drill it out..worst case is that you'll drill right through the threads in whatever you're drilling into but you'll get it out. Grub screws are really tricky to get out at times.

Try tapping a torx bit into it and remove, it will have to be a small one like t8 or t10 or so. That has worked for me in the past with recessed grub screws. Good luck, if not like said earlier drill it.

What he said ^^^^^, and add just a little heat to the hex to expand it a bit. If there is Loctite on it, it will also loosen that up a bit.

Usually screws like that have some kind of thread lock on them. It helps to hold a hot soldering iron to the grub-screw for a few minutes to loosen the thread lock up enough. Remember that all the metal around the screw acts like a giant heatsink so it will take a while to actually warm the threadlock up.

One thing not mentioned is get yourself a nice set of allen wrenches.... it beats those soft crappy ones that come with kits that strip out all the time. Bondhus makes some really nice allen wrenches for a pretty fair price. Spending the $ for the right tool can help save a lot of time and frustration on stuff

Despite having good wrenches, I recently had a rounded bead lock screw. Tried SAE, no go.

Then I just got a small square of aluminum foil, doubled it (very thin cheap foil) and put it over the screw before inserting the wrench so that it pushed down into the screw. I actually think it punctured, but one face was down in the screw recess, and gave just enough grip to remove the screw. Would probably be tough on a 1.5mm grub screw, but might work.

Left handed drill bits work really well also. Just turn them slow so the bit bites and pulls the screw out. Heat will help as well since alum will expand more and fast than steel, it will open a little and let it come out.

Yup, pry it off with a flat head or tap a larger size hex or torx into it.

The aluminum foil trick works for me sometimes as well. I have also gotten away with using tape instead of foil. You are basically taking up the slack in the screw head with the tape/foil.

What about an "easy out" extractor? Just a thought!

Valve grinding paste is useful for stripped screws also.

Try to find a torx screw driver that small.

Grab an old t wrench as close to the size you need as possible and slather it up with jb weld. Insert let dry and twist. Careful not to get it on anything else
