| RC Car Stand
Had it posted in my Wraith Build Thread, but thought better to post it here as well. Basically, after a couple of weeks working on my first RC-Car, (Wraith), I got tired of lifting, moving around, flipping over the car to get to the screws, fittings and such. So looked around a bit and saw some fancy stands that cost much more than that they're worth. Biggest short-comings I saw: Only 1 movement possible typically, turning the car around to get to the other side. Good for some tire-changes and that's about it. There's some others that I've seen, but they work with butterfly bolts and nuts.. Again not very user-friendly. My daily job is running an electronics-recycling factory and we get (you guessed it). lots of old electronics. Saw some old VESA-mounts for monitors. Took one and looked for a piece of wood, some vinyl and a few rubber feet for it. - Cut the wood to a nice stable size. - Cover it in vinyl to give it a nice & clean professional look. - Screw the VESA-Mount in the middle. - The top of the mount has 4 slots for the screws that normally hold the monitor. - Get some long (50-60mm) bolts that are thin enough to fit between the skid-plate and the tube-frame of the wraith. (I only used 2 bolts to hold only 1 side of the car. Its more than enough, but you could use bolts for all 4 corners) - The VESA-Mount I got has nylock bolts, so I loosened them just a bit so that I can turn the car around, move it in all angles holding the skid-plate and the VESA-plate together. - Done.. Cost me nothing but an hour work or so... Pictures will show everything more clearly... Last edited by schuimpge; 02-26-2015 at 01:45 AM. |

Forgot to add.. It's very easy to move the whole stand with car around. For example from the new workbench to my cluttered desk.. I like the slightly large top plate as it blocks the lower and tires from moving down all the way. But that's a personal preference that can be easily modified to your own likes.. |

| Re: RC Car Stand Wow, this is a great idea. I would have never thought of that vesa-mount being used in that manner. Much cheaper than the integy aluminum work stand and like the OP mentioned, it's limited to a couple of movements. I'm all over this idea like white on rice lol...Thanks for sharing! |
