cool, i was doing a bit of research on 9-10 inch saws last night on the net. i found this one: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...7283_200327283 Made by kawasaki. It says it comes with a laser guide and a light. Where i will be putting the saw i could use the extra light. Does anyone know if there tools are worth the money? i am trying to decide on which saw to buy in the 99 dollar range. BTW McMaster does have blades for all the small saws. |

found a real nice saw from crapsman. 10 inch all cast iron table. it even has ball bearing guides. http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...seBVCookie=Yes a little bit more expensive but it looks like its worth the money over the delta and the ryobi. Last edited by URBNFLX; 04-06-2007 at 09:57 PM. |

The rpm's on wood cutting band saws are about 10 times too fast for metal, but a lot of guys use them with success. Heat is what kills the metal cutting blades. High speed Bi-metal blades will hold up much better. I picked one up from a tool center locally for 15.00 I was paying 10.00 for the carbon ones. A fine misting of water from a spray bottle will help keep the blade cooler while cutting. I have a Craftsman band saw and have no complaints except I wish I would of got one with the shop light attached. -MikeP Last edited by Mike Poulson; 03-30-2007 at 08:48 AM. |

Cheaper wood cutting band saw + appropriate amperage speed control = cheap metal cutting band saw. At least this is my theory. If I get power out to my shop in the next couple of days, I will see if it really works. |

I know from long experience that the cheaper benchtop bandsaws are generally designed for woodworking - so you have to deal with excessive blade speed and the lack of good metal blades that will fit. There are ways to slow the motor speed, but if you can't find a good blade it's a moot point. I had a Delta for a while, I got tired of searching for blades. I got one of these from my dad. Not cordless though, an old-school one you have to plug in: I replaced the small black stop with a 1/4" 6061-T6 "table" for more work area. I clamp it in my bench vise when I need to use it. Blade speed is like a third of a "hobby" bandsaw so heat buildup is not such an issue, and replacement blades are readily available and last forever practically if used properly. They're pretty expensive new, 400 bucks or so. If you could find one at a pawn shop or something you might get off cheaper... Last edited by Big Mike; 04-18-2007 at 11:39 AM. |

ryobi will hold a bigger (wider) blade than the delta; a little more for metal cutting. although neither is really suited for it.
