Default Chassis Makers! Share some of your secrets!

I've recently picked up brazing and instead of building something small, I dove right in to making a tuber.

It isn't perfectly straight and has some issues but looks like a truck! What I was wondering was how do you measure for things such as A Pillar bars to hug the body and so on. Is it easier to start with the main cage ( a pillar b pillar and harness bar) or the main frame? Thought about picking up CAD but seems time consuming for someone who isn't familiar with the programs. I've got a pretty good bender so that's not an issue and my brazing is improving instead of getting worse haha.

Also what do you use to hold small things in place while brazing, such as tabs for skid or body mounts?

Maybe I am thinking to much. Here is where I am so far. I plan on making another chassis with all of the tricks I've learned from this one.

I'm no kind of chassis builder but have spent an a lot of time looking at them, particularly door car drag race chassis & one of the things I've seen that seems to make the
A pillar bar easier is utilizing a "halo" roof bar like the cage on the left as opposed to tying to bring the A pillar up & across the door like on the right.
Makes the roof & A pillar relatively simple 2D bends, rather than the complex 3D mirrored bends required conventionally.

Hope thats some kind of help.

That's what I'm talking about! That would have been a a lot easier than what I've done haha. Went through a lot of material to get it close to and it's still not perfect.

Hey bud, I'm starting a new build in the Ascender section that might give you some ideas.

I've done some similar things to what you've done. Such as trace the body out. I used graph paper and kind of used that to judge width and so on. Some good ideas in your thread!
