Cheap pit mat

Hello guys I just made me a cheap pit mat today. I was searching around looking at pit mats today and I couldn't bring myself to pay $20 to $30 for this product. So I made my own went to harbor freight a bought a tool box liner solid not mesh one. It's no slip and easy to clean and for $8 for a 18 inch x 72 inch piece it work pretty good for me just thought I would share a cheap pit mat deal thanks guys

I've been thinking about using a large mud flap for a big truck. They're pretty cheap and nice thick rubber.

Take a look here. FBL ROTORS HELI WORKSTATIONIts not cheap but it wont blow away should you take it outside like a lot of us air guys do and its got lots of little "pockets" for tools and parts. Great small business to deal with, Ralph design's his own stuff and his customer service is second to none.

I got this "boot mat" at Home Depot in the spring when they were clearing out winter stock, about $10. Wouldn't pay full price before that. It is about 18" x 36" and about 3/16" thick rubber, not the plastic stuff that slides all over the place. It is just about perfect size for my work table and 1:10 RCs. The outside edges are about 3/4" high so stuff can't roll off. I've only lost the occasional screw, nut, or washer and I think there must be a "mat monster" hiding there that eats them when I leave them lying on the mat. :lmao: Only drawback is the ribs on the bottom are a problem once in a while, not enough to make me look for something else though.

Go to a discount store like TJ Maxx or Ross and get a yoga matt.

Cheap, can be cut to the exact size you want, works great

Yoga mats from Walmart.

Or guns mats. I don't know why people don't use these more often, but they are perfect. You can get them in a ton of different sizes and most of them are absorbent and they don't allow oils to soak through so you won't ruin the surface underneath.

Some examples.

I use a large MAC truck mud flap and a freightliner floor mat. They work great and look awesome!

Cheap rubber bootmat mat (something like nightcrawler48's pictured above) for my bench sans the ribbing. Keeps those little screws in place!

I have a rubber mat, but I always use one of these on top. It makes cleanup so much easier.

I had races for years. I always used a regular white (possibly hotel) towel and an old sign magnet underneath it.

I bought a boot tray for $5 last winter, works great. Only shoes it sees are Trenchers and Swampers.

$3 yoga mat

It's blue and about 1/8" thick. It was about 5' long and 2' deep. I cut it in half so now I have a spare.

I've been using a piece of cardboard for a bench mat (no need for a pit mat) so far. Like the ideas mentioned above, gonna do one of them for sure!

I like these ideas, I picked up a JConcepts pit mat for my bench and then melted some of it when I was using my heat gun to shrink some wrap on a servo lead....

PC Gaming mats are super cheap and they have some large sizes with some neat designs.

I use the grid craft mats. Pick them up for $12 or so at Walmart. Grid lines eventually wear down, but they are pretty tough. Pretty handy at times having the inch grid.

Mine's about 2 years old...almost time for a new one.
