Tube sizing for custom chassis?

Currently building a Vaterra Ascender as a D90, having had a long break from the hobby I must say I'm loving being back in it again.
I built a long while ago a Clod based monster truck crawler and that was big enough for some 6mm (1/4") tubing and a home mad cage.
What size are you guys using for your scale builds? I've got some chassis rails and fancy doing a truggy of my own, or possibly a rock buggy?

I use 3/16 brake line. It comes coated but a wire wheel will remove it. I just let it burn off during brazing.
