Windows 7 is great. There's so much that comes into play with a computer as you probably know. RAM isn't everything.

Keep an eye on https://www.slickdeals.net and https://www.woot.com for cheap computer deals. Woot is owned by Amazon.

Cool , good to know thanks! I used to be pretty decent getting around in Windows but since I got my Chromebook around 2013 my Dell with Vista has been sitting on a shelf.

This is the Dell I was looking at yesterday

Dell Optiplex 780 SFF Desktop Business Computer PC (Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.93GHz, 8GB DDR3 Memory, 1TB HDD, DVD ROM, Windows 7 Professional) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DSJKU7W..._5KYtCbWYJ0A6E

I forgot to mention that I got my desktop PC from Woot. It was a factory refurb from Dell. It has the same factory warranty as a new PC and it was $800 instead of $1,500 whatever it should have been new. I love it and I haven't had any issues with it. Dell has their own refurb site (including bidding auctions) and outlet sites so you can check those out as well.

https://www.dellrefurbished.com/
https://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/22/campaigns/outlet - pay close attention to the three scrolling images at the top with daily deals.

It's also a good idea to chat with a Dell rep if you are going to make a purchase. They often can give you a better deal.

You can do much better for just a little more if you do research. Like this deal on Woot with Windows 10 Pro and an SSD. I'm not up on my processor info so this one may have a better or worse processor. Processors are so fast these days they, IMO, they aren't a huge deal if you're not gaming or doing really intensive graphics and video work. Some of the IT guys on here can help with that. But I would seriously recommend checking out Woot and the Dell sites I posted. Buying bottom of the barrel computers leaves you with a frustratingly slow machine that will be obsolete within a year IMO.

My new PC only has 4GB of RAM, but it's got a solid state drive and a good multicore processor, and it hasn't struggled with anything I've tried to do so far in Fusion 360 or in Cura. My models aren't huge, but some of them are busy enough.

4GB of RAM with a standard hard drive and a more modest processor could certainly cause difficulties, but there's no harm in trying it. RAM is the cheapest and easiest thing you can upgrade in the PC, which is why I put my money into the other parts when I bought mine.

Your SSD is most likely why you're not noticing any slowdowns. When RAM is full, some of the data is dumped to disk to make room. With a regular HDD, this causes the computer to slow WAY down, but will be a lot less noticeable with an SSD. I'd still personally suggest a minimum of 8GB though, constant page file usage can cause it's own issues, even disregarding slowdowns...

That 7010 your linked is WAY better. 3rd gen i5 is a big step up from a Core 2 Duo, lol

This is dirt cheap: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...9SIA6A35AT4464

And it's socket 1155, so it could be upgraded to a 2nd/3rd Gen i3/i5/i7 later. Desktop DDR3 is dirt cheap these days as well. We generally sell tested 4GB Desktop DDR3 sticks at around $8-$10/ea. Pretty sure these have 4 RAM slots, so you could easily be at a 3rd gen i5 w/ 16gb of RAM for under $200...

That is dirt cheap but all my knowledge that I had in my earlier days of messing with the these is gone lol, I'd probably be better off going with the one Jato linked from woot for 259, it would take someone that knows what they're doing to get one of those $59 ones humming in a hour it would take me a week.

If you can work on an crawler, RAM or CPU upgrades would be a piece of cake. Sometimes it just makes more sense to get it already put together though, lol. Hell, I even bought a prebuilt (Alienware) a couple of years ago. It'll NEVER happen again, lol, but sometimes you wanna just plug it in and go...

I did do an upgrade of ram to an old Windows 7 laptop back around 2012 and it worked out well but at this point I'm gonna have enough trouble figuring out 3d printing lol so I really just wanna fire it up and go lol

For sure. That's why I bought it with the SSD. I put my money into the SSD and into the processor and cheaped out on the RAM. RAM is the easiest & cheapest thing to upgrade later.

Google Express has a 20% off coupon today for new customers. Good time to get a cheap computer or 3D printer.

I know this news is a little bit old but though it was worth sharing.

Creality Ender 3 connectors (knock off XT60's) are MELTING and are a potential FIRE HAZARD

Makers Muse video

SexyCyborg Reddit Article

If anyone has this printer you should inspect this and replace with a real XT60 or similar know good connector. Creality has said that the new models are not effected by this issue.

What is the purpose of the XT60 connector on that printer?

Why didn't I think of that? Which wires though? It just seems like an odd connector to be used on a 3D printer.

Why isn't it hard wired? FYI I'm not familiar with the Ender.
