Default Anyone here use Chicago Electric tools?

Hello, I just returned my second dremel today. The clerk stated that they have been getting a lot of returns on the dremels. He stated he has seen this for about a year. On my way to to purchase another dremel, I thought I would stop by Harbor Freight and see what they had to offer. Their clone’s price is $24.99. OK, I know you get what you pay for, but I am getting tired of buying dremels from WalMart and Home Depot. Any thoughts or suggestions? (search did not bring anything up for me on this)

Yes I have 3 dremles and I buy tools from Harbor Freight , the knock off work about the same , secret is to buy the warranty where all you have to do is swap the tool out . Still have to go back and forth to the store but you get a new tool each time . I hope this helps

Constantly replace a cheap tool, or constantly replace an expensive tool. The choice is yours.

FWIW, I'm still using the same cheap clone that I bought several years ago. I think it even came with replacement brushes...

fwiw, I bought a WEN brand rotary tool off of Amazon a couple of years ago and I've had zero problems with it while using it pretty regularly on molybdenum, aluminum and steel. I believe it was under $20

Dremel is not what they used to be. They used to be solid workhorses back in the day that would last forever. These days they are disposable.

My Dremel that was new in 2000 still hasn't needed brushes... Its lost a few speeds in the middle but probably needs cleaned bad. I see them every once in a while at garage sales.

My dad has one of the Harbor Freight ones that is just off and on, I hate it. Also doesn't have the same size shank. This could very well not be the one you speak of, but just consider the features when you look.

Thanks to all who replied to my question.

I purchased the tool, and extended warranty from Harbor Freight yesterday. I used it a few hours last night and it’s working well.

So far, it’s lasted about 5 times longer than my last 2 Dremels. lol

I've been using the same Dremel for about 15 years, and very regularly. It still works perfectly. Buy decent tools instead of HF (I've got some HF stuff too, but nothing I need to last) and take care of them, most will last a long time.

Great I think you'll be happy with the extended warranty . They have replaced my welded 3 times . Happy building

I use HF tools if they are ones I only use a few times a year. And yes, get that extended warranty! I have some electric tools from HB that have lasted me many years, some last a few months.

The problem here is that Dremel is supposed to be one of those brands. Sounds like they're starting to sell out as of late...

I own a shop so we use our tools on a daily basis. I have ran many Chicago Electric tools to their death in under a year on many instances. If you don't use your tools very often they will last for quite a while and may very well be a good investment. If you use your tools everyday you will end up spending more money running back and forth to Harbor Freight replacing them than you would have just buying a real tool to begin with. In a shop that makes money, wasting an hour of time that could have been spent making money quickly nullifies the savings of the cheaper tool. But, if you don't use them that often, they'll probably last a decent amount of time.

I have this too, maybe two dozen hours on it, no problems. Even came with that silly telescoping snake thing for people with tiny hands er something.
