Default brass sheet for shock tabs

hi all

starting to gather supplies for a brazed 3/16 brake line cage and am wondering about what do for tabs.

I am aware that there a couple of retailers selling laser cut tab sheets, but being in australia, they want $20usd+ to ship to me. So its too cost prohibitive.

What are the thoughts on using brass sheeting for this purpose? Is it too weak for a basher style/U4 truck?

any suggestions are welcome.

Cheers

I know a guy in Australia that has a collection of steel tabs. I’ll let him know and get him to contact you.

Brass is pretty soft but if it's fairly thick, you'd be ok depending on the size and how its attached. I'd look for a sheet metal shop and ask if they have any 22ga or 16ga scrap steel you can buy for cheap or maybe even get for free. I've gotten some decent sized odd shaped pieces (about 6"x8") from my metal guy for free when i was buying tubing for a 1:1 project.

I've used 1/8" brass (3.2mm) for other things that got bolted down and it will be plenty strong. It feels stronger than aluminum of similar thickness. Just don't use thin sheet, it has to be 2-3mm plate depending on how much support it has.

man 3.2mm is thick! Think I will stick with .8mm steel, flanged nuts and get some tabs off a local guy who got in contact.

Cheers for this input.
