Tonight's project, a raised bumper mount for my daughter's Honcho. Initially printed one off thingiverse, but I didn't like so I made my own, lol.

Where’d you find the body for the build? And how did you make it so smooth?

Pretty sure he designed it... there's a whole build thread on it.

It was designed and printed in house. Our lead designer drew up all the parts for this truck and the Dakar truck we finished. Check out the threads!

How are the parts holding up?

Haven't broke anything yet and I've jumped it, rolled it on its side and hit quite a few rocks.

Cool looking stuff you guys are doing. I asked for a 3D printer for Christmas from my wife. Looking forward to using it. I have already designed half a dozen parts for various things that I want to try to print.

What CAD software are you guys using? I have been using FreeCAD because I am a Linux user and the play well together.

JSterrett, what CAD are you using? Looks browser based.

It is browser based. It's called OnShape. I tried Fusion360 and couldn't get the hang of it. They have awesome tutorials to teach you how to use it also...

I started with tinkercad but complex geometries can get pretty tricky, so I had to switch up

For me the secret to fusion 360 was sketches. To make a cube, you create a sketch on a plane, then draw a square on the sketch, then extrude the square to make a cube. Sounds complicated to make a cube, but who is designing cubes? If you draw a complex shape and extrude different parts at different heights you have something amazing. But most of it starts as a sketch on a surface. Then make a sketch on the new surface and begin again.

Put a battery through this thing today and holy shit does it exceed expectations. Launches flat, corners and steers extremely well and still crawls like that's all it was built for.

Yeah, OnShape is basically the same thing, sketches extruded from planes, but for some reason I struggled with the sketches in Fusion 360. OnShape just seems more intuitive to me. OnShape's tutorials are WAY better IMO, so maybe that has something to do with it...

I may have to give it another shot now that I'm more familiar with 3D design in general...

I had a loose foam around my original Flysky FS-GT5 steering wheel, so I designed a new wheel and put the foam on there for a much better fit. Bonus: I added a thumb stick for good measure

Who else stacks old tires under their rigs during the winter so that your good crawling tires don't get flat-spotted?

No More!

I started printing these screwjacks instead.

I put almost all my shelf queens on them.

These print out in one shot and are fully functional. Even in PLA they are plenty strong. This SCX is over 10lbs with all these batteries stacked on it.

Unfortunately I posted some pics on my local FB group and everybody wants one. They take a day to print and since people actually PAY me for them they are usually higher up on the priority list.

I got one of my boys a Tamiya Ferrari 458, TT-02 chassis.
I have a TT-01 chassis with a Porsche GT body and I told him the challenge was to see who could make theirs go the fastest.

He designed a front splitter as his first mod.
