Default Where To Buy Tubing, Rod & Other Metal Stock..?

I got myself an oxy-acetylene torch kit so I can start experimenting with some bumpers, sliders, and roll bars etc. What I have not found yet is a good source for metal. Tractor Supply had a small supply but most was way too big for RC stuff. I didn't really find anything at the big home stores either. My LHS has a small bit of brass and aluminum but not steel. I think I want to go with steel.

Any suggestions for a good source or two? Online or local. I live in the Atlanta, GA area.

You need to find a large steel mill or warehouse like ALCO metals or something like that if possible. They have just about everything you need raw steel wise without the middle man like lowes, home depot, ace, etc. Hardware you can buy on ebay for cheap or mcmaster-carr if you need it faster.

Home depot and lowes has what you may need to. Just more $. for tubing go to an automotive store for brake line. Just remember to remove any coating before welding brakeline

Thank you for the reply. I heard about brake line but I'd prefer not to have to strip it.

You can also hit up a hydraulics place for tube. Steel vendors in your area, if there are any. Luckily for me, I have 4 large metal suppliers to pick and choose from, I'm not sure what I would do if I didn't live in fabricatorville! Its nice to hold it in your hand before you buy it. $20 goes a long way in rc building materials.

McMaster-Carr is a good source for pretty much everything hardware and stock related.

Thanks. I went ahead and ordered a few pieces from Zoro just to make sure I have something on the way.

I appreciate all of the help here and I feel I have a few good options for on-line stuff. Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to try and check out some local places where I can go and pick some stuff out. That is how I'd prefer to get it.

Thanks for asking this question, its one I've had but never asked. Everything I've made has been solid rod since thats all I have available locally but I'm looking forward to playing around with some tubing now.

Casey, there is nothing like working with SS tube. And Zoro is almost 1/3 the price of McMasters in this case for the same tube. I use Mc Masters a lot but not when I'm buying cage and bumper material.
