if you dont have a sponge, a damp paper towel will work well too, and if youre really dsperate you can use any soft cloth dry to wipe hard crusties, then re-tin the tip. A clean Iron makes soldering so much easier |

Also the tips have a coating that can be burned off as I have found out.... I've left my iron on before, and killed the tip. With the coating burned off, it was awful trying to solder. Toss on a fresh tip, and it was good as new I use a wet sponge. |

As with most of the chemicals used in soldering, don't breath the vapors of the Sal Ammoniac, flux, solder etc....but you already knew that...lol. I reallly like my Ungar 50 watt pencil iron for most applications in RC. Most of the cheapo Radio Shack, etc. irons will work, but not nearly as well...especially if you ever do any soldering on pcbs, like inside your esc or rx. EDIT: Bought my Ungar at the lhs years ago. | |

these are all good tips. i just came back from school that taught soldering. don't forget to throw some solder on there to preserve the tip before putting it up |

Just go to the craft section of wal-mart and get a sponge. Just let it heat up and wipe it off on a wet sponge.
