Question
Is the term brazing being used when actually silver solder is the filler?

I couldn't tell you the official definition but around here people will use the term brazing if the filler is silver solder or brazing rod.

If it requires 840° or greater to melt your filler, it's called brazing, regardless of the silver content of said filler.

I use Silicon Bronze rods to tig when I build my stuff and consider that brazing. I like J’s definition though.

Terminology is important, and the use of the words can influence & motivate.

I have mig, tig, tanks & torches, weld, tig and braze the later not often.

I think that silver soldering for the scale world, would be preferred because of the way it flows.

When parts are joined that joint is nice and clean, not like the bird droppings seen when folks braze. It is very obvious, to tell the difference, no amount of grinding helps...... joints are to tight to clean it up.

And now with the Silicon Bronze, offering the advantage of joining dissimilar metals, stainless & steel even better.

So mixing the terms haphazardly, might be confusing some one that might be considering upping their game.

I know enough about metal work to build little cages & bumpers.
