Looks like a handy tool but it's on the pricey side in my opinion https://www.matcotools.com/catalog/p...-SOLDER-CLAMP/

Yikes! For $78 I'd rather hold 1 wire and burn my fingers.

That is pretty sweet, gives me an idea on how to make something similar with some scrap Al. Is that the real Eddie Fiola, the legend?

Poked around on the internet a little and as it turns out, he is really into tools and building things in his garage full of tools.

Not to derail franks thread, sorry for the 80's kid BMX nerd out.

Now only if we can get an RC company branding on that and get the price up to $156

It reallly is surprising an RC oriented company didn’t produce this tool a long time ago.

I want one. It solves what is far and away the biggest challenge with soldering. At least for me...

Man that would've saved me chucking things across the shop in the past when I couldn't get 2 wires soldered :lmao: Like GA Dawg said, probably diy-able rather than burning a hole in your pocket

I don't think that would be too hard to design and 3D print. Josh are you watching? You need to design one of these on your Sunday evening live design feed.

It would be difficult to design and print it just like this IMO. The knob feeds the solder and that could be very tricky. A simpler jig would be a good idea for a livestream though.

You could go simple and do what this guy did - use a mousetrap! :lmao: And it's not the worst idea to be honest. I found it while looking for more info on this Matco tool.

$78? Yikes! You could accomplish the same thing for a lot less with one of these.

It’s probably really helpful splicing and repairing harnesses in place in autos when it’s in a tight spot. I know I would have liked that tool when I did field repairs on heavy equipment in Alaska.
