I use a Smith jewlers torch with oxy/ace. Nice cheap little unit that does a helluva lot better than my HVAC head or the regular mapp torches. Super tiny flame, I can weld two ant nuts together if I want.

Smith Equipment's Little Torch: Jewelry Torch | Soldering Torch | Hobby Torch | Jeweler's Torch

I've used it to braze up motor commutators, make little jewelry, and the next time I need to braze or weld some scale stuff it will handle the task well.

I guess cheap is relative lol. I know this is a great setup, but does anyone know of a fine tip torch that can directly attach to mapp with no regulators or oxy? The std mapp head I have works but a much finer flame would be easier for alot of brazing.

I'm using a small oxy/acetylene brazing torch w/ a '00' tip and regulators set at 3 psi, it makes a nice small flame good enough for tube work. I plan on adding a jewelers torch like Mr. Holmes linked for more delicate work.

Turbo Torch with B-tank. smallest tip available (not sure what size) works great. A "B-Tank" is a small acetylene tank for those who dont know. About the size of a fire extinguisher. No oxygen is needed.

TIP: when doing a brazing project, I keep a candle lit on my work bench, makes constant re-lighting easy

Here is the one I use:

I just bought some coiled brake line today at the auto shop. I own a dental lab and have a Oxygen/Propane micro torch thats used by jewelers. I tried my first brazes on the brake line today and I'm quite happy! I'm excited to get started on my MRC tuber frame, I know nothing about chassis fab but I'm going to have fun on the way. I've read a lot of threads about planning the build that have been very helpful.
The test piece isn't suppose to be straight- just practice ,,,,

Nice looking job, congrats.

As to the Bernz-O-Matic 2 tank set-up, I also have one. It's sorta nice, but gets expensive FAST buying tanks.
Since it's a simple regulator, the flame size changes as the tanks run down, a real PITA.

I would suggest real simple (Mapp tank with torch head) or a bigger jump up to a real 2 part system similar to what Holmes linked.

I would NOT recommend the 2 tank Bernz-O-Matic set-up.

I use a crosstech with mapp or propane. It gets hot enough to braze with 8th" coated brazeing rods

Here is the one I use:
TURBOTORCH Air/Acetylene Kit - Gas Welding Outfits - 4PU19|0386G0090 - Grainger Industrial Supply
I use the same setup, with an "A-2" tip (1/8" dia) and a B tank. Works great and doesn't throw heat where I don't want it, it is nice to be able to pinpoint the heat exactly where I want it

I can also recommend using a propane or mapp with oxygen setup for silver brazing at the RC scale, with the Smith torch. The smith torch works well with oxy/ace, but the flame length is 6" to a foot long. It makes it difficult to control in tight situations and overkill for brazing.

Oxy/Ace is better for welding super tiny bits together or working with cheaper silicon bronze fillers.

i use a full size torch setup....harris i belive.... on oxy/propane and it works excellent. ive tryed the small straight mapp, also the small disposable oxy/mapp setup and found the full size setup works out the best

edit: i belive its a 00 brazing tip i use... super small flame 1/2"-3/4" long
