| How do you spline?
How do manufacturers or YOU make the splined parts? If i could spline, i would be able to make my own wheel adapters and alot of other parts like servo arm and stuff.

I know on bigger stuff,a broach(sp) or something like that is used. The way it was explained to me was it kinda just punches the spline out. Not sure if they use the same deal with tiny stuff. I'm sure there are several ways to get splines and probly some ways work better than others for different types of slines. I'd say the type of spline you need would dictate the process you will need to look for. |

You can cut external splines on the O.D. of round stock with a manual/cnc mill. Some external splines are formed/rolled. Internal splines are usually broached as raptorman stated. I'm sure they can be milled too, if the pattern is big enough. I'm not sure of any way to do it by hand though.

I'm not sure how those shafts are manufactured personally.

IMHO,some things are better off bought. I've tried building my own steel shafts with allen wrenches and deepwell sockets. Allthought they worked and very stout, they were ditched after a while. I still keep them aroud for spares but would rather run a Revo shaft and forget it. That being said,I've never had to get them out. I figured the Revo shafts would be the weak link in my drive train. (2 horsepower outrunner on 10 cells and a near 12 pound super that flat out get's beat on) The Revo's.....they will hold their own. | |
