A little bit of cnc video

I figured the hard core tool and procedure guys would like this. I took some video while making some hexes for my new truck. Enjoy.

HEX

thats actually pretty neat. So thats basically a metal milling machine or a cnc machine huh? Do you operate it by hand, like tunring the little wheels to make the bit go in or out while its spinning, or does a computer do it?

Awesome!!!!!

One of my short term plans once I move in the new house is to get a mill or a cheap CNC. There are so many cool things like that you can do with them. :)

Thanks for showing that video, I really love watching those machines work.

Very cool, thank you for sharing that. I'm doing some homework for a CNC class right now.

1 question...why not bore the center hole while it's on the lathe?

Kamikaze 07-05-2007 01:48 PM

There are two reasons, one the mill will do it cnc, were the lathe has to be done by hand, and the most improtant reason that you want the hex and the center bore to be done in the same jig to insure that there centerd, if I do it in the lathe I am not garenteed that it will be in the true center. Expecialy if you follow the same hole and unchuck the stock to move it out and make more, the center hole can be as far off as .100". If I do it in the v-jaws I know its centered with the hex.

cool video.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! Was the lathe one of those electric-mechanical types (the ones where a dial that is attached to a potentionmeter is spun by hand, which activates a linear actuater), I saw one like that on the Greatest Factories-Ferrari making an engine valve. What does your company manufacture?

landy_man 07-15-2007 06:37 AM

that is so cool...

love watching cnc machines... especially the really big ones like on "american hotrod" when they make rims ...

awsome....

All our cnc lathes use actuaters and servos for there movement. As for what we make.....anything your willing to pay for. Heres my companys website. http://www.columbiamachineworks.com/index.html and here's a few pics of some machines, and for fun some of my welding, flux core and stick.
