Question What Do You Use To Glue Delrin??

Hi all I want to make some stuff out of derin and seen as it cant be made in one piece I was wondering what glue to use.
I had thought of useing a 2 part epoxy, but really I need somthing that will weld it as it will be under a lot of stress. Hope you can help me.

Thanks Tupers

I would sand the 2 surfaces to be bonded, then clean them with some dish soap before bonding.

I'm guessing any glue/cement/bonder specifically made for plastics would work fine.

Gorilla Glue... I haven't found a material yet that it will not hold to.

Thanks for the help guys. I've got some plastic weld so I will have to try that once I have the parts made up. Looks like I've got an evening of technical drawing to look forward to before I can make the parts though. Yey .

Thanks Tupers

Hi Tupers

What you need is a special 2-part glue called CYANOPOXY which is apparently very expensive:-(
Heres a cheaper way and it does work because i have personally used it on delrin
You need Loctite 770 polyolefin primer and ordinary superglue. The primer does something to the surface of the delrin(not sure what) which enables the superglue to bond in the normal way

I got my primer off ebay uk

If you need any more info just ask and i will try to help

i work with delrin making probes for non destructive testing of airline parts,,,and its really hard to get glues to stick to it!!!! the only real luck i have had with joining 2 pieces of it was to use a soldering iron and basically weld it together,, mostly depends on if the parts are going to see any stresses or not!!!

I don't know what size or shape you need but have you checked with a plastics supplier? I have ordered Delrin from my local supplier and they have a lot of shapes and sizes that they can order. They might also know what would be best to glue delrin.

As far as glue,,, if you don't have any luck with the ideas already posted you might want to try a 2 part epoxy called Plastic Fusion. I have not tried it personally but have heard that it works really well. I bought some from Home Depot but haven't tried it yet.
