Default Metal Gear Fabrication

I've been looking for stronger gears (metal or derlin) for the PTI axles. They use the same gears as the TC3/NTC3. I haven't found any. Now, I'm looking to have some made. How are these types of gears usually made? Do I take the plastic gears to a machine shop and have them make a copy? Is a mold made and the gears cast in the mold? Or, are they usually made on a CNC machine after creating a 3D image? Am I looking at $100, $200, $500?

Its done on machines. Cutting gears is a difficult process. I was at my uncles machine shop watching him do it before, and there was a lot of math involved in determining the number of teeth you want, then figuring out the pitch and depth of the teeth. I took him over an half an hour to figure out just one small gear. You'd be lucky to get out for less than $100.

First you need a CAD drawing, then have a 100 gears made. $5-$15 each I would guess.

It appears that the reason there are no metal gears for the TC3\TC4 is they don't have problems with the stock gears. But if you have a bunch made I will buy some from you.

Check this site out http://www.sdp-si.com/

Cad files for most of the gears they sell is available for download. I use the files for planning my projects.

I'm not familiar with the gears you are talking about but, if all you need is a straight cut gears you can go to a machine shop with the gear in one hand and a checkbook in the other and they can cut you gears out of what ever you want (as long as it can be machined). most shops that do cut gears will need the pitch (32, 48 or what ever) and id for the shaft. or you can go to stock drive products http://www.stockdriveproducts.com/ and search what you need. also if you are set up to cut gears it is not a difficult process, a 72 tooth 32 pitch spur can be cut in about an hour including set up time.

EDIT*****SORRY I NEED TO READ A LITTLE CLOSER NEXT TIME..........................
