| making a cage out of delrin rod or tube?
i searched and didnt find much, anybody ever try this? i know dirk used delrin for a stinger and bumpers on his bushwacker project, but how about taking that further and making a cage or exo out of it? i have a hilift project that i want to put a combo flatbed/cage on the rear and some sort of cool stuff on the front... i was thinking of using a combo of both 1/4" delrin rod and tube, depending on the structural need of the area, and using glued dowels and screws to hold it all together. kinda like an evolution of how i built my old pvc crawler. is there some painfully obvious reason this cant be done or would suck? i would honestly prefer plastic than brakeline or rod for something like this, thats why i'm asking. and delrin is sooo much easier to work with using simple simple hand tools... |

well...it would be expensive as hell, and if you screw up with the drlin it just cost ya quite a bit of money but with brake line if you screw up you can buy another 6 ft peice for 6 bucks or so my $0.02 but if you had an unlimited buget go ahead post pics when your done btw, i dont think you can braze derlin like you can steel.....my $0.02 agian |

i was and still am considering just learning how to braze brakeline and building a flatbed/cage doohicky with that. i just wondered about using delrin since its argueably easier to work with and pretty cheap. not to mention its lots lighter and stuff. i would use dowels, screws, and junction boxes to hold it all together. i need to read more on what glues it together. i can get a 50 pack of delrin dowels and 5 feet of both solid and tubular 1/4" delrin for pretty darn cheap. |

It's pretty cheap too! You mentioned it but, Dirk is the only one I can think of that's done it. He did a delrin cage too | |

JWCustomwurks (Jeff) did it on the back of his Flatbed clod bodied TLT (I want to take credit for it, I can't remember if I actually suggested it or not but he isn't here to say I didn't so...................).
