| Brass tubing idea....
I am in a fix here. The tanks I have are too old to get anyone to fill so I am pondering a different approach to brazing for a brush guard I want to fab for my trail scaler. The idea I have is to use soft brass tubing, bend it to how I want it, and injecting epoxy or JB into it to stiffen it up and keep it from bending easy. (and then of course solder it up) Worth the effort???????? |

Hmm, that sounds neat. However, I think brass may be too soft, especially if the bumper will be subjected to rough/harsh use. You never know, though. Check harbor freight (harborfreight.com) . They have good deals on tanks.

One of our locals uses brass tubing and it works just fine as long as you make sure to reinforce it where it needs it. He does rock sliders that way and the added benefit of them actually bending like real rock sliders if you lean on them too hard.

$$$$ for brass tube and more parts = "Oh those,,,I had them in a box downstairs dear" (and followed by "honestly.....I did"! I might add) I am hoping the epoxy or JB will "set" the tubing into the shape it's bent, and stiffen it to be almost as stiff and a solid rob, but be lighter and quicker to silver solder up, and also drill and tap to mount it up a bit more subdued for a cleaner scale look | |
