Harris Safety Silv 45 or 56?

need to get somthing better than home depot crap.

56 It's a little more pricey but the quality will make up for it in the end. I currently use lincoln electric brazing with a flux cozting on it it's like $7 bucks at lowes.

I'm making my 2nd tuber and have used both.
They seem to flow the same for me, so I'd go with the 45 as it's cheaper (but I just bought some more 56 because the store was out of the 45)

I think 56 flows a little better

Both will work, All the 56 and 45% means is how much sliver content there is. Buy what % you can afford.

Kamikaze 07-29-2007 08:55 PM

I use 45t, works great for me.

Double J 07-30-2007 10:19 AM

I use both, but I'm more fond of the 56%, cause it flows better and "sucks" into the joints more. 45 has a tendency to buger up a little and seems to sit atop the joints more so than the 56. but not that noticable.

But either will work great.

Being pretty much a newb to soldering I guess I'll go for the 56%. Should help me get better joints if it flows a little better.
Thanks guys!

Here is a good thread that discusses the difference from people who seem pretty knowledgeable.

I also use 56%. It's only a couple bucks more than the 45, may as well go with the good stuff.

For once, I agree with you. I use the L.E. coated stuff, and it seems just as simple as can be. I have never had the desire to look to more expensive stuff.

BlueMonster 08-10-2007 10:55 PM

Gamble the $17 and try some 56, I guarantee you will never go back.

On that note, I have several packages of the coated brazing rod I am never going to use...
