Ok, a question from me too: The materials used - brake line and solid rod, right? From steel, right?(that's not the real question  )Well ok then, brake line - for bends, and solid rod for .... rigidness and toughness? I mean, brake line can be bent by hand, so in a tubular frame it cant withstand some serious overweight over the frame, right? I would be glad if someone explains me how should i design my frames... *shy*And why is it called "brake line"? (sorry for stupid question may be..)

JJ thanks for starting this thread it rocks! I have a ? though, I ordered some silver solder from ebay and it came as a less pliable material more like a brazing rod . It said harris safty silv solder but didnt come in a tight little roll like you guys are using, and it seem to take an extreme amount of heat to melt. So the ? is this silver solder you all use is it more like an electrical solder in that its soft and pliable? thanks in advance for any help!!!! |

Hey rcjeepbuilder, I dont know what the other guys use, but harris safety silver is some good stuff, you cant beat the strength. pretty much all I use for brazing, it flows much better than brass for me and is tons stronger than the softer solders. EDIT OK, so i just watched the video...lame of me to not have watched it before... did you happen to get your harris in a 1lb or larger package? the rolls are bigger for those than the 1 troy ounce packages. Great thread, I just finished my first brazing project (a bumper). It turned out pretty good. Can't figure out how to add a picture. I just used propane, the silver solder I'd been using for electronics and battery packs and the flux I'd been using for sweating copper in my house. It seemed to work well and seems pretty strong, but has not taken a hit yet. The propane only took a few seconds to heat the brake line and rod. |

just to help with the magnet question.. Just look for an all metal welding magnet.. the ones with the black stuff will melt. (but still work) Like here. the Mini magnet pack would be good to have I normally use more than one at a time. https://weldingsupply.securesites.co...DEF:OR:magnets |

I already have a nice Bernzomatic self-igniting propane torch head. Can I just buy a bottle of MAPP, or is it different threads on the bottle, or different orifice inside the torch head that won't work with MAPP? Awesome thread! TNX!! |

I believe the threads are the same, but MAPP gas is significantly hotter and may damage a regular propane torch if used long enough. Some torches are labeled as multi-gas and will work with both. Better make sure just to be safe.

awsome thread very helpful. I am wanting to learn how to braze (on account of I am an RC addict and crawling is my favorite form) so I can make a tube chasis could someone lead me to a good torch that is not too expensive and can braze 1/4" steel tube.(semi noob please forgive any dumb or reapeted questions) |

NEED HELP I have successfully done reg easy silver solder on small steel tube before but I cannot get my Safety silv 56 (hard wire) to BOND with 1/4 steel DOM Tube. I tab some Harris flux on the joint Heat it to red with Mapp gas but the Safety Silv melts to a ball and runs off  What's wrong ? |

I'm, going to be getting into this stuff soon.. And you guy's have been covering all the base's with alot of good anvice & help... thank's You have answered alot of lil' "Q" that I would of asked but, I just read thou the whole bit's here and that about cover's it all for me... now I just got to grab up every thing that you have said to get ... Then give it a try... thank's again dude's And keep this going too hopefully it was a big help to alot of guy's out there too who's been wondering & wanting to know just how hard it would be to try a hand at brazing up stuff for them self's.....
