3/16 a little small for a super.
Is that .035 wall feel pretty strong ?
I'm thinking of using 1/4 stainless for mine too
3/16 .035 wall is $13. for 6 ft not that bad for what you are building, it is the frame work of the whole crawler
Yhea, I would proabably go 1/4" on a super. 3/16 doesn't look bad tho.
I think the .035 wall is perfect. If you fall off a 5' cliff straight onto a sharp rock it might bend. 99% of the time it takes the abuse.

Im not sure what it's going to look like till its done The design has evolved from my original idea...

Yep. Works good for me. I do think the paste flux method can be cleaner tho as far as cleanup.

Have you looked at the Smith Mini Torch? It takes MAP and all sorts of other gases, heck you could run it off of Pinch's farts if you wanted too.

It's small and very percise and only costs about $125.00.

Thanks for the tips

Build it right and it will take that fall and more. 3/16" is plenty for a super (who builds supers anymore anyways?). I dont like the way 1/4" kinks on every bend. i will post up a picture of what I am talking about when I say build it right.

This is what I was thinking:

http://www.littletorch.com/kits.html

Model #23-1014

There like $125 - $140ish

They look like a great little torch. My dad uses one for jewelry work and the tips are easy to get and change and with it taking all kinds of gases it's pretty versital. The flame can be as small or large as you want depending on the tip. They also have a cool lighter that you just touch the torch too and a 9v. battery lights it up quickly. It's just a bench mounted rig.

I've been thinking about getting one here shortly.

I found some on ebay and I'm working on finding them here locally in Utah. I've got a fever and the only cure is a Smith MiniTorch :-)

I built a tuber a few years ago for my clod with brass and brazing... but I'd like to step up the home fab a touch. This looks like it would do the trick...

I've got a smith "The little torch" oxy/acetylene torch. Bought it to make my tuber.

Worked pretty good but to be honest I liked the plain old bernzomatic mapp gas torch better. The mapp gas is perfect cause it's very hard to over temp the joint. With oxy/acet I found the heat was to concentrated and I could burn off the flux before the heat was right.

Great thread guys. If you have three pipe ends being joined together, do you have to braze them all at once or can you add one later?

Speaking of tips, im having issues keeping a consistent flame. Got a new bottle and a new Benzomatic tip. Seems like the pressure is too much for the tip. Barely on is where it works right, ~3/4" blue needle. The flame length fluxuates Need better quality tip?
that is the same thing i use.

get one of these.

Gimbal... any tips on compound bends- what I mean is bending things on two different planes. Flat bends I have no problems with. Also keeping longer pieces symmetrical is a huge PITA.

Good tech thread.
going to have to get one of these i guess.

will it get brazing rod hot enough to use? and what flux would i use if any with regular rods from lowe's? i got some silver solder 50 1/8" and i am having trouble melting it. any suggestions?

great writeup and thanks alot.

I had a fire in my house a few months back and I just recently received my "soft" items back from the cleaners. They used many industrial hangers for many heavier items (looks to be 1/8 rod, perhaps a hair larger) and I am curious to know if the Mapp setup will work with this kind of rod. It will be my first project, so I am not really super worried on looks, just don't want to waste $.
