I got so pissed at myself last night...

Ordered up some 1/2" Delrin to make a set of transmission/motor plates with. With my limited tooling and skills, I decided to cut all the holes and bearing pockets on the rotary table. Talked with Bill (RCAlloys) and he said he usually grinds down a 1/2" endmill to the diameter he needs. He'd never though about going at bearing pockets like this and was interested in my rotary table idea.

Remember, I'm using manual equipment.

Worked well. I nailed the .190" pocket depth, but I went brain dead and cut the pocket .003" too large in diameter. :-x

So I get to start over and crank handles again today.

Man Jason, sounds like you need a boring head...

Your using the rotary table to open up bearing press holes??? Or are you using it to layout a radial hole pattern?

That's what I'm wondering. Did you grind an endmill down to match the O.D. of the bearing for a light press fit, or are you using the rotary table with an undersized endmill? Plunging it with an endmill works as long as you pilot drill the hole undersized first close to the finish diameter. Another thing to watch for is runout in the tool.

Undersized endmill and rotary table.

It worked, though.

Well, I did have a smaller one to cut for the bearing pocket, wasn't too bad though.

Where did you find a table that small? It seems to be the perfect size for rc stuff.

Yeah, that's a lil' Sherline rotary table came with the Sherline 4000 lathe and vertical milling column I picked up a couple of years ago.

Ace, the 2-speed is for an idea I've had in my head for a year now. Finally getting started on it.

Sweet. Looks like a fast motor? (not for a crawler?)

I'd love to have 2-speed gearbox's in my clod. Have low for crawling, 2nd for wheelspeed.

Crap.

Thought I replied to this...must've clicked "Go Advanced" instead.

The motor is a 7 turn Hacker Brushless. The 2-speed is from OFNA and intended for use in the Monster Pirate or Dominator.
