If your going to spend a decent amout on one you have 2 options that i would consider. 1. get a tig 2. if you get a wire feed mig then get one thats gas compatable thats one thing i regret not getting on mine. |

I wouldn't recommend either of those two. You want a name brand so you can find replacement parts (tips, etc) So in your price range that pretty much means a Lincoln. Clarke makes some decent machines, just not in that price range. Don't get the cheapest Lincoln, get the next step up. Its another $100 or so, but more than well worth it. Lowes, Sears, Home Depot, etc all sell a version, some call it Weld Pak 100, or HD-100, or something similar. It has the ability to convert to gas (true Mig) with an extra kit you can buy once you get decent with the Flux core. This is absolutley the cheapest Mig welder you can get that will last more than a few hours of welding time. It makes pretty good welds too. Anything cheaper will most likely be flux-core only, and/or have a constant HOT tip, which is a pain in the *** when trying to learn with. You would be wasting your money with either of the ones in your links IMO. |

i have a couple lincolns , one i got from home depot i think it was under $300 , worked fine except no fine tuning, 2nd one i got from local welding supply , much better , i know walmart has one for like $150-$200 if your brand new to welding , try one of those to see if you even like it, if your making tubers , you can get a great brazing set up for the same price , and brazing looks much better than mig, mig is very sloppy especially on small stuff,

Look into Hobart Welders. You'll have to save up another $100 or so but they are soooooo nice. Oh, and I'll let ya in on a little secret. Hobart welders are all made by Miller. Miller Quality, different case. But they're about $200 cheaper for a similar model! |

Well I'd say Hobart is slightly less than Miller quality. They are not exactly the same as their Miller counterparts some of the parts are a little bit cheaper but over all they are a good quality machine. I would recommend saving a lilttle bit more and getting a better machine. The 1st machine I bought was an off brand and I was not happy with it at all. I ended up saving for awhile and getting a Miller 210 with a spool gun and couldn't be more pleased but that is an expensive machine. You might think about saving for a 220v unit but if not that at least make sure u get one that has gas capability. I wound make sure to stick with one of the big 3 Miller, Hobart, or Lincoln. I wouldn't even consider any of the others for a Mig. |

I got a little Lincoln Weld-Pak wire feed with the gas kit for MIG welding, think I paid 400 or so, maybe 300. I would take the money you have and save it and get one in the 300 -500 range.

got me a lincoln 135 connect gas and it works awesome Miller is a great product This is a serious buy, Don't go cheap, no sense in buying a expensive tool and then not be able to do tasks that welding requires. Harbor Freight is junk |
