What CAD program?

Looking to get a CAD program to design some tube chassis' and other simple parts. Don't want to spend alot and I don't have any experience with CAD programs.Any tips would be cool. Also if any suggestions, let me know where I can buy it.

CAD programs aren't cheap, atleast Autocad isn't. Try something free before you buy something you may not really use. Look at Google Sketch Up.

Sketch up is not really a CAD program, more of a art program.

Try student versions of popular software packages. It would be illegal for you to do any work for anyone else but to learn for yourself it is perfect. You will only have to spend about $100. If you think that is too much then you have no idea what you are getting into and you should just go buy some graph paper.

Thats what I meant, I don't think he realizes the cost of these programs. Autocad is what, $1500'ish or so.
Sketchup I think gives an idea, or online machine shop has free CAD software for getting parts made by them you can try out too.

A student version of autocad is $150 but you have to have a college id though.

Check these guys out you can buy most software packages with any type of school ID. If you have a kid just send them your child's ID and you purchase it "for them".;-)

Hey, Derwood, try Instant Deck Design. I found it at Office Max or Office Depot for $20. It comes with this other program called TurboCAD, a knockoff I guess. I haven't been able to get the TurboCAD to work, but the Deck Design has worked great on tube designs. I even designed a revolver once, and a neo-Tommy Gun when I was bored.

Just for the record, designing a tuber frame in CAD is almost pointless. Unless you have a high end CAD program that can run the dynamics of the suspension. Other then that you are just drawing pretty pictures. You can create templates that are helpful but you can get that done with graph paper in a lot less time.
