how long should i let it sit for? |
JIA suggests using Greased Lightning...says it works great."thumbsup" |
i used the easy off yellow can, supposidly its the only one that works, but it did tarnish my metal, i just painted over it you could polish them after |
Greased Lightning or Whink Rust Stain Remover work very well. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/rr_label.jpg |
Anodizing doesn't need to be removed before powdercoat does it? Just thought I'd tag my question on here rather than start a new topic. |
Let the lye (easy off) sit on there for about 5-10 minutes depending on the depth of the ano and tempurature. Don't brethe the vapors or get the lye on your skin. Wipe it off every few minutes and see if it has hit metal yet. As soon as it is clean hit it with baking soda and water to polish and neutralize the lye. If you let it sit too long it will pit and corrode the aluminum too much. |

Greased Lightning Even RCCaraction did a piece on it. |
But does it dis-color the alumium and how long did you let it soak for |
In the whink rust remover |
Depends some times you just have to poor it on and let it sit for a couple of seconds. |
Id use Dran-o sink clog remover. Worked amazing and left a mirror finnish. I let them sit for about 45 mins. |
greaed lightning by far the best. non-toxic, won't corrode alum., will look good unless parts are made of cheap alum. i'd only use easy-off to strip chrome off of plastic. also depending on anodizing, only take 10-15 min to strip, rinse off. you can polish it to a shine with some alum. polish. |
Where can you pick up greased lightning? Whats its normal use? |
Its a degeaser. You can find it in walmart in the cleaning isle or in the automitive section. It can also be found at most auto parts stores. |

I just did my axial kit a minute ago(don't tell my boss) I used a bead blaster, worked very well and left that nice matte finish on the aluminum. |
I tried the yellow can of easy off and it seems to work the best. It took the anodizing off fast. The only bad it that it tarnished the aluminum but it wont matter after a run over the rocks. |

alright now that we all know how to get rid of it how do you anodize it |
after getting the green off, whats the best way to re-color it? (trying to go all blue) |
Powder coatings! Check out Eastwood company for a home kit and some sample pics. Got a buddy of mine that has a setup with a little oven about the size of a hotel refrigerator. It does a pretty good job if you prep it right and for anodizing you have to pre coat the item in silver or gold to get that translucent look. Check out this link, I think there is a video on there somewhere as well. http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...ORY&itemID=458"thumbsup" Other than that I have looked into getting a home anodizing kit but they cost to much to pay off but your interested check these guys out. They carry the kits and the colors. http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/aluminum.htm They also list a anodize and chrome stripper that is aluminum safe."thumbsup" |
