You can't just "get" a copy of CAD. Here is a start: 3D modeling/rendering software Or run an advanced search for "CAD" in the "Tools And Procedures" forum. |

Don't know if you could design a tuber on it but its free. Check out Emachineshop.com. I downloaded their free cad program to design some parts. They have video tuturials on how to use different techniques.

I don't know what all the stipulations are, but you can get a student edition of solidworks for around $100. I believe you need registered in a class that would use it. Anyways this is just what I have heard.

Holly hell, my head ALMOST exploded. GOOGLE. Quote:
Second, it will take you tens of months to learn the software, and cost you thousands for a decent program. Plus designing a tuber in CAD is pretty much useless. I have done it several times but mostly for fun. Plus you need to model the rest of the parts to be able to check clearances and everything else. It took me about 24 hours of modeling time to do just the axles and trans from the AX-10, and I am fairly proficient at "CAD". Quote:

| http://www.rhino3d.com/ They offer a "free trial" where you get (if I remember correctly) eight saved files, then the trial is over. So if you fool around with it for a while, but you don't think it's worth saving, don't. This way you'll be able to use it more and more, and only save what you absolutly HAVE to save. I've used this for a while, and I know someone who has started out on it and is now in the stages of producing that particular product. Quite a neat offer. [edit] http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/5615/rd0208doq9.jpg That is a screen shot of what he is designing on that particular program. Not a skimpy program, by any means. PM me with any questions you may have on Rhino, hopefully I'll be able to help you solve them. [/edit] Last edited by Donziikid; 11-23-2007 at 06:22 PM. |

| Wow a lot to take it First off I know what CAD means I’m not just some Joe off the street. I’m sorry I should have made my question more to the point but it has been 5 or 6 years since I actually worked with a CAD program. I do have all the parts i.e. the axles, trans, ect. I just don’t want to spent lot of money to "prototype" chassis after chassis. I really don’t have the time or money to waste on the time it takes to bend all the tube and the supplies it will take for each chassis. I live in an apartment and can’t just break out the welder and start in on it. Have to plan time over at a friends shop but I work nights "a dam 12 hour shift" and the nights I have off I’m up all by myself and have the whole night I could mess around and draw myself something up on a cad program. Just think it would be more help full when it comes to the measurements of the tube length and where to start all my bends. I bought a DMG chassis and really like it but I see lots of pros and cons about the chassis and I have many ideas that I would like to try. I know I would waste lots of time just modeling parts like the axle ect but may be beneficial with checking clearances and stress points on the shocks and drive train. All I was looking for was basically what I found on eBay the link to the student copy of solid works and to see which CAD program everyone liked. Thanks everyone I got the information I needed.
