Where do you guys get your materials? I am getting my mill soon, as seen in the other thread. I thought this might be a subject worthy of a seperate thread, though. I will obviously be in need of chunks of metal to cut and drill into cool little bits and pieces, but where do I get it? I know of onlinemetals.com and Mcmaster-carr.com (or something close to that) Anywhere else? I am also extremely close to Boeing and thier "surplus" warehouse, I am sure I can procure some good material there as well. |
Check your local scrap yards, alot of machine shops recycle their drops. Sometimes these drops are perfect for making R/C parts because they are usually farely small. |
I know in Colorado ALRECO is the place to go. HUGE scrap yard of every conceivable size and shape of metal and decent prices too! |
Ah, scrap yards, I never thought of that! |
Well, I know ALRECO is specifically for metal. They have this HUGE warehouse with tons of different aluminums, in flat stock, bars, and cylinders. It'd be so easy to mill some wheels out of their cylindrical stock. Too bad your several thousand miles away. |
