Default Help on Flux

My flux ( harris safety x?x?) is watery milky on the surface and below is very solid.
I tried mixing together a bit but when apply on material and apply heat it burns on like a crust

What am I doing wrong?

I have watched videos of brazing and read Jay's brazing intructions, it looks like it should be so simple. when I silver solder is it a peice of cake.

Thanks

My personal experience, the flux dries out over time if it sits. I add some water and mix it up real good and it's as smooth as butter, goes on good and burns good...maybe try the water.

That's actually normal really. when heated it burns off all the contaminents. Some joints will be redish in color and hard, but it'll come off. Other joints will just turn whiteish. sometimes there is too much water and sometimes it's to dry but it'll still work the same.

I also try to use bottled water when liquifing the dried flux.

what brand?

my joints sometimes have a white crust on them once they cool. quick wire wheel or a brillo pad and all is normal again.

one small can of flux should last you about 12-15 t.o. of braze. stuff lasts forever.
