Im wanting to strip the green anodizing from my Axial aluminum parts, so I did as suggested in several threads and bought some Greased Lighting. I soaked the parts in that stuff for over 2 hours and I got nothing, didnt lift the green at all. Did I buy the wrong formulation? Until I Googled it a little while ago, I had no idea that theres several versions. I bought the white bottle, which one do I actually need?

sodium hydroxide if i remeber corectly. oven clean same stuff. you oven cleaner i did on some anodized parts and got it right off

I beleive its the multi- purpose ther is a videeo on here I can't remember where though that shows you which one

Thanks for the suggestion but the multi-purpose is the one Ive already tried. I havent been able to find the video, just a thread that mentions a video somewhere. Im wondering if the high performance automotive stuff (purple bottle) is the right stuff? I dont want to keep wasting money to find out Im buying the wrong stuff.

As for the oven cleaner method, I dont have a good place to deal with the mess/fumes right now.

I know it was from the auto parts store.And guys on here that have tried oven cleaner say that it tanishes the links black

oven cleaner it only turns it black if you let it sit for to long, it corrodes and pits aluminum thats why it turns black, dont let it sit for to long. ive tried grease lighting and it works about the same as oven cleaner,i can take a picture of the bottle in a couple of hours to show you which bottle of grease lighting.

Thanks for posting that pic Yotachump. That helps alot, the one I bought says multi-purpose cleaner and degreaser but mine has blue/white/ yellow label and says "commercial grade". I would have thought that commercial grade would be even stronger....

How long did you have to let the parts soak before the green started coming off?

maybe about 4-5min before the green started coming off.

Seriously? I found the same kind that you used at the store tonite and my parts have been soaking for almost 2 hours and the green wont budge. I must have the Axial from Hell.

Same dillema here....at first I bought the "Orange Blast" stuff cause that's all they had at Wally World. Used that....and even though it did eventually work, it did take an overnight soaking to strip an Axial stand-off spacer. Then I went to Home Depot and found the commercial grade stuff. Went home with that and it takes even longer. I was however trying to remove dark blue from some shock pieces, so maybe the darker the ano...the longer it takes.

Before you know it, I will have a bottle of each and every variation of Greased Lightning

I hate wasting good money that could have went towards new crawler parts, lunch, whatever. I said screw it and got the yellow top can of oven cleaner. Starts working instantly, getting every last bit of green does take a while.

Too bad Im freezing my butt off outside to get it done.

EZ-Off yellow top oven cleaner, sit for 10-12 mins. and WIPE it off, don't rinse it. Have used this numerous times, I de-purpled my savage and stripped the TVP's.

As you can see, the side plates are not black, and there is no purple to be found.

After buying the two different kinds of Greased Lightning, I tried the Super Clean I had for degreasing engine parts (the purple stuff), and that worked quick. I had to watch it, or it was about to start pitting the aluminum.

Drano granules, about an ounce to a quart of distilled water. Wont take long at all.

If ya got a battery charger and some battery acid and a few other goodies you can do your own anodize any color you like........
